General Chinese Courses:
The Chinese Language Programs are designed to immerse participants in Mandarin through class instruction, after-class tutoring, language exchange with native Mandarin speakers, and optional electives. The group programs of general Chinese usually focus on conversational skills training. The private one-to-one lessons may be tailor-made to fit the objectives of individual students.
Accelerated teaching methods allow participants at lower proficiency levels to acquire the language skills needed for effective communication in a short period of time, and advanced students to gain expression proficiency at an abstract level. Topics studied include everyday situations and Chinese culture, business, society, and history.
General Features:
- Total immersion in the Chinese language
- Levels available from beginner to advanced levels
- Short term booking may be from 1 to 12 weeks
- Long term programs: semester or academic year
- Native Chinese teachers with at least college degrees in teaching Mandarin and years of experience teaching Chinese to foreigners

Small group Chinese lessons:
- The focus of lower level training is on conversational skills while higher level immersion programs integrate all aspects of the language: reading, writing, speaking, listening, grammar, phonetics, and vocabulary.
- New beginner groups are formed every month (see starting dates for details).
- Small classes average 5-6 students.
- About one fifth of the class time is spent on activities that may include the following:
- Chinese Character Writing: Classes introduce the radical system, composition of characters, stroke orders and basic characters.
- Chinese Songs: Singing is an excellent way to improve language skills and vocabulary. Students learn Chinese songs including traditional folk and pop songs. Lyrics are written in pinyin and hanzi (Chinese character text).
