Guanajuato (pop. 120,000),  the Capital of the Guanajuato State at an altitude of 6,583 ft (2,008 m), is a historical and picturesque town of agreeable little plazas, streets lined with stairs and houses of pastel-colored facades and balconies trimmed with iron work, and flower-filled window boxes, located about a five-hour drive northwest of Mexico City. The town is a maze of cobblestone streets and alleys that wind around steep hillsides upon a small ravine, opening into vistas of beautiful churches and small plazas.

Most of these passageways are largely pedestrians only, since modern traffic circumvents the narrow streets underground, in massive stone tunnels and upon the riverbed, past the basements of the core city. During centuries, a major mining center, its mines pouring out silver for the Spanish crown, now a government seat and college town. Since 1988, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Guanajuato has no traffic lights or neon signs, creating an extremely enjoyable place to walk, peaceful, yet with plenty of life in the streets, and plenty to see.

Although a small city, Guanajuato has a great deal to offer: from the beautiful colonial buildings to modern museums, from the silver mines to the university.   The famous Underground Street, officially known as Calle Miguel Hidalgo has an amazing charm. Following the course of the old Guanajuato River, it runs nearly 3 kilometers beneath the city.  Guanajuato astonishes the visitor with the charm of its relaxed atmosphere. Its paved streets and picturesque squares.

DON QUIJOTE GUANAJUATO, Spanish Language School

The don Quijote Spanish language school in Guanajuato is located in the center of the town. The school has 10 classrooms, a teachers' room, office, multimedia classroom, patio and a terrace. All Spanish teachers hold university degrees and have been trained as teacher of Spanish as a second language. don Quijote is an internationally known Spanish language school with head quarters located in Salamanca, Spain. Spanish language courses are also offered in several locations in Spain where you can also learn Spanish with don Quijote.

All group prices include: Spanish Language lessons as listed below, 24 hour emergency phone assistance, study and cultural advisor, welcome dinner, guided city tour, student card,  Mexican government taxes, pick-up service at bus/train stations for Sunday arrivals (limited hours!), study materials and books, dancing and/or singing lessons, use of computer, video and library, Internet access with free e-mail services, use of tennis tennis rackets, and use of video tapes and cassettes (even use of a Walkman if you forget your own!). All Courses also include 5 FREE cultural lessons per week. Maximum number of students per class:  8.  Minimum Age: 16.

   Super Intensive Courses in Guanajuato now start the FIRST MONDAY of every month for ALL levels.

Executive Premium Spanish Courses  - Executive Spanish courses are also available at Don Quijote Barcelona, Don Quijote Salamanca and Don Quijote Tenerife.  Spanish Courses consist of group lessons in a mini-group of 4 students per class maximum, with additional one-to-one Spanish lessons per day if desired. Courses start any Monday. Prices include all items listed above under "Spanish Courses" plus lessons as listed below. Executive Super-Intensive and Executive Super-Immersion courses also include lunch with your teacher.  Prices:

Accommodations 2010:

Accommodations are offered in host families (single room or double room occupancy available for students traveling together) or in shared apartments.  Your accommodation will be available the Sunday before starting the course from 12 noon onwards. You must leave it for the new students on the Saturday following the end of your course before 12 noon.

Shared room discount for family, apartment share and residence accommodation are available for students traveling together.  Please contact us for details!

Activities

A welcome dinner is offered on the beginner starting dates and a guided city walking tour is given on those dates also. One extra cultural class is offered every day covering subjects such as Cooking lessons (learn how to make local dishes- offered at extra cost!), Spanish/Mexican movies, social issues in Mexico, etc. Salsa Dancing and singing lessons are scheduled on a regular basis. Use of the multimedia room, free e-mail, videos, walkman, music tapes and tennis rackets are included in the price of the course. For those students that are interested in meeting and talking with Spaniards and exchange program is offered (however, please be aware that about half of the conversation time is expected to be done in English). A "Cultural Adaptation" counselor is available to assist students with any problems they may have adjusting to the new cultural environment.
