Piccola Universita Italiana has been offering Italian courses in Tropea since 1993 and in 2013 the Trieste school branch was founded. Since 2004, it has been officially recognized by the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research.
The Piccola Universita Italiana school in Trieste is situated in the heart of the old town, just a few steps from the famous Piazza Unità d’Italia, where students can enjoy real Italian coffee during a study break. The name of the school comes from the historical tre Venezie, which today are the regions of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Veneto and Trentino.
The institute is located in a magnificent Venetian building and has 6 air-conditioned/heated multimedia classrooms (32” flat-screen TV, DVD players, internet point with iPad), WI-FI throughout the school, a cinema, library and reception area.
All the staff and teachers at Piccola Universita Italiana are highly qualified and specialized in teaching Italian as a foreign language. The native Italian instructors are certified for teaching Italian to foreigners and teach the language through the communicative method, using Italian as the language of instruction. This method provides the greatest possible development of students’ linguistic abilities. The school library is constantly updated with new materials. Alongside modern and professional Italian language textbooks, integrated with audio CDs and CD-ROMs, they also use literary textbooks, films, songs, magazines and newspapers during lessons.
Piccola Universita Italiana is a member of IALC (International Association of Language Centers) which inspects it’s school members on a regular basis guaranteeing the quality of the programs offered.

Italian Courses in Trieste
Italian Course Options: Students may choose any of the course options listed below. Important Notes: Minimum enrollment: one week (except on special programs as indicated below, where minimum enrollment is 2 weeks). Minimum enrollment age is 18 (16+ upon request and when accompanied by an adult). Each lesson is 55 minutes long. All prices include: school enrollment fee, welcome information package (school bag, map, notebook and pen), all training material, initial level assessment test, certificate of completion, extra curricular activities taking place at the school (movie night, cultural seminars. etc.). The price also includes round trip transfer service from Trieste, Treviso or Venice airports.
Standard Italian Course – 20 Italian group lessons per week (each lesson=55 minutes), 3 to 6 students per class. 15 levels from Beginner to Advanced. Course consists of 4 lessons per day from Monday to Friday: 2 grammar lessons and 2 conversation lessons each day with two different teachers. Class schedule: from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm or from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Class schedule preferences will be taken into consideration whenever possible but final placement is determined by the school based on the student’s language level. Important: If a group of at least 3 students at the same linguistic level cannot be formed, then the student will be assigned to semi-private of private classes (“2 to 1” or “1 to 1”) with the number of lessons reduced by half. In this case, the course would have 2 daily lessons: 1 grammar lesson and 1 conversation lessons with the same teacher.
Intensive Italian Course – 26 Italian lessons per week (each lesson=55 minutes), 3 to 6 students per class. 15 levels from Beginner to Advanced. Course consists of the Standard Italian course (20 group lessons per week) PLUS 6 private lessons each week (2 lessons each day 3 days a week). Group class schedule: from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm or from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Group class schedule preferences will be taken into consideration whenever possible but final placement is determined by the school based on the student’s language level. Important: for the group portion of the training, if a group of at least 3 students at the same linguistic level cannot be formed, then the student will be assigned to semi-private of private classes (“2 to 1” or “1 to 1”) with the number of lessons reduced by half. In this case, the course would have 2 daily lessons: 1 grammar lesson and 1 conversation lessons with the same teacher
Conversation Italian Course – 10 Italian group lessons per week (each lesson=55 minutes), 3 to 6 students per class. Intermediate to Advanced levels only!. Course consists of 2 conversation lessons per day from Monday to Friday. Class schedule: Monday to Friday from 11:10 am – 1:00 pm or from 4:10 pm – 6:00 pm. Class schedule preferences will be taken into consideration whenever possible but final placement is determined by the school based on the student’s language level.
One-to-One Italian Courses – 10, 20 or 30 Italian private lessons per week (each lesson=55 minutes). All levels from Beginner to Advanced are offered year round (between November and February upon request). These courses are completely tailor-made and teachers work closely with students to fulfill their needs so that they can improve their language level quickly. One-to-One Italian courses may start any Monday of the year.

Holidays 2020: The school will be closed on: 1 January, 6 January, 13 April, 1 May, 2 June, 8 December, 25 December. Classes missed due to holidays are not made up but a credit on the weekly fee will apply.

60 Plus Italian Courses: This program is specially designed for mature people who want to experience Italian language and culture together with other students of a similar age. Minimum enrollment age: 60 years of age. Two week course which includes 20 Italian language lessons per week, activity program and accommodations.
Prices include: school registration fee, welcome information package (school bag, map, notebook and pen), all training material, initial level assessment test, certificate of completion, extra curricular activities taking place at the school (movie night, cultural seminars. etc.). The price also includes round trip transfer service from Treiste, Treviso or Venice airports, and choice of accommodations in single room in a shared apartment or a studio apartment. Activity program: welcome drink, one “aperitivo”, guided city tour including coffee, one museums visit, four half-day excursions, one full-day excursion, one afternoon excursion with snack, and two evenings with Italian movie classics.

Italian Plus Courses:
Italian and Painting: Professional painting course in partnership with the free academy of the Fine Arts School of Trieste. Individual lessons with renowned, expert instructors to develop or refine artistic skills and techniques. Your choice of Oil, Watercolors, Drawing or Portrait courses. The course consists of 10 hours a week (2 hours x 5 days) and the price includes materials, paints and canvas/paper. Starting dates: Any Monday. Price 2020: USD 620.00 per week.
Italian Cuisine: This Italian and Middle-European cuisine course, perfect for diving into the gastronomic culture of multicultural Trieste, may be added to any of the Italian courses offered. Course consist of 3 lessons per week (6:00 pm to 9:30 pm) for a total of 10 hrs and 30 mins. Minimum course length: 1 week (3 lessons). Maximum course length: 4 weeks (12 lessons). Price includes: Recipe book, apron and all ingredients necessary for the preparation of all dishes. Starting dates: Every Monday. Price 2020: USD 292.00 per week.
Piccola Universita Italiana – Accommodations
The school offers different kinds of lodging that will satisfy the needs of every student. In order to offer the highest possible services, the school personally manages all flats, their weekly cleaning and linen changes. All flats have televisions and most have balconies, washing machines and radios. Some of them enjoy sea view.
Host Families: Staying with a family is the most complete way to immerse oneself in the life and culture of Italy. Carefully selected families are located a maximum of 35 minutes away from school either walking or via public transportation. Students have a private single room furnished with a bed, table, chair and wardrobe. The common areas of the house are shared with the family.
Apartment Shares: The school shared flat has a fully equipped kitchen with dish washer, six neatly and comfortably furnished bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. All rooms come with flat screen TV (32“) with SAT-TV and Wi-FI Internet access. Located 10 minutes walking distance from the school.
Studio Apartment: A studio school owned apartment which is ideal for students who like to be independent. The apartment includes a bathroom with a washing machine and integrated dryer, a fully equipped kitchen with coffee machine, dish washer, oven and refrigerator and a comfortably furnished bedroom with a flat screen TV (32“), Wi-Fi Internet access as well as heating and air conditioning. The towels and linens are changed once a week and the apartment itself is cleaned once a week as well. Located 20 minutes walking distance from school.
Accommodation prices include: bed linen and blankets, water, gas and electricity use.

Piccola Universita Italiana Trieste – Activities:
The school staff and teachers organize social activities every week. Most cultural and recreational activities taking place at school are included in the cost of the language course. Students only pay for the entrance fess to museums, cinemas or theatres, for public transport, guides and for evening meals in restaurants. On the first day of the course, students receive full information about the city, the activities and the facilities at the school. A welcome walk through the historic area is included on the first Monday of the course.
Excursions: Every week, the school offers you the opportunity to immerse yourself in the fascinating culture of the territory of “Le Venezie”. Guided tours through the city of Trieste and its palaces and museums, guided excursions to historic castles, afternoons dedicated to Italian cinema and seminars on Italian culture are an integral part of our cultural program. In addition, the numerous UNESCO World Heritage Sites throughout Friuli Venezia Giulia, Veneto and Trentino enrich this program. The school can also book tickets for events at the Opera House in Trieste, which offers an interesting and extensive calendar of concerts and operas.
